New Year’s Resolution Check-in: Weight Loss

It’s been a few months since the new year started—enough time to make some serious progress on your resolutions. Like many people, maybe you’ve lost the weight and religiously hit the gym, but found that you’re still not entirely satisfied. We understand it can be frustrating to work so hard and simply not get the results you want. Often, men and women utilize plastic surgery, like liposuction, at our Kalispell practice, to complete their transformation when hard work and self-discipline doesn’t quite cut it.

We believe that plastic surgery and med spa treatments can be the finishing touches on a healthy lifestyle. These procedures should not be considered a substitute for a nutritious diet and frequent exercise. In this post, we will talk about good candidates for our favorite body contouring procedures.

Liposuction

This procedure is great for patients who are within 10 to 15% of their goal weight but have stubborn localized fat deposits. We offer power assisted liposuction, which uses a vibrating cannula to loosen and suction away fat in areas like the abdomen, flanks, thighs, upper arms, chest, back, and neck.

During consultation we do a detailed analysis of the areas with excess fat. This step must be meticulously performed to ensure optimal results. We will also review your overall health and assess the elasticity of your skin. For patients with significant skin laxity, a tummy tuck may be a better option.

CoolSculpting®

If you are not interested in surgery, we offer a noninvasive treatment called CoolSculpting. This treatment shrinks targeted areas using cold temperatures that break down fat cells. CoolSculpting can treat the abdomen, flanks, back, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, and beneath the chin.

The results are gradual. You won’t notice them right away, but over the course of few months you will notice a reduction of stubborn fat. The procedure only takes about an hour, and it requires no downtime. Patients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is the most extensive of the 3 treatments. However, it also provides the most dramatic results. The procedure creates a flatter, firmer abdomen by removing excess skin and tightening the abdominal muscles.

Candidates should be in overall good health and at a stable body weight before having the procedure. Often patients have rolls on the lower abdomen or around the belly button. However, they also have excess skin and abdominal laxity, so liposuction alone would not be sufficient to address these concerns. The results can last for years as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle and keep your weight relatively stable.

Many patients have an idea of what procedure they want, but we recommend that patients come in for consultation, so that we can help you determine what will work best for you based on your body and your goals.
