At our practice in Kalispell, Montana, we perform mommy makeover procedures for women who want to restore their bodies after the effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding. Like most moms, you probably cherish pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding as wonderful, life-changing experiences. But some of the changes to your body may be unwelcome, and they often can’t be reversed by exercising and following a healthy diet.
Board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Michelle Spring and Dr. Michael Hromadka specialize in body contouring procedures and cosmetic breast enhancement surgery that are part of mommy makeover procedures. We see patients from Helena, Missoula, and Whitefish, Montana; Spokane, Washington; cities in Idaho; and even Calgary who visit our practice. “Dr. Hromadka and the staff at Glacierview were incredible. From the first consultation, I was impressed with his bedside manner and his ability to make comfortable and easy what I had expected to be an unpleasant experience.”– CT8179, RealSelf user
Good Mommy Makeover Candidates
Women who decide to get mommy makeovers usually want to regain confidence in their bodies. Some feel self-conscious wearing a bathing suit, or even taking off their clothes in front of their partners.
You should be at (or very near) a weight you’re comfortable and happy with before undergoing a mommy makeover, as significant weight fluctuations can affect your results.
Either Dr. Spring or Dr. Hromadka performs a physical exam during the consultation and will ask about your health history to ensure you are a good candidate for an extended surgical procedure. The surgeons then draw from their experience to help patients choose the procedures that best match their goals.
Some women, for example, may be satisfied with the size of their breasts and only want to elevate them so they appear perkier — in which case, a breast lift will be the best approach. Others may want to combine breast implants with a breast lift.
Your Mommy Makeover Procedure
A mommy makeover is customized to address the specific concerns of each patient, but there are certain procedures that are usually included:
Abdominoplasty: A tummy tuck removes loose, excess skin and fat, minimizing the appearance of stretch marks below the belly button and creating a flatter stomach. A tummy tuck can also repair the abdominal muscles, which can become stretched and separated during pregnancy.
Liposuction: Often in tandem with a tummy tuck, liposuction sculpts aesthetically pleasing contours by removing excess fat from the abdomen, the flanks (“love handles”), and lower back. Liposuction is also effective in the chest, thighs, neck, upper arms, and knees.
Breast Augmentation: Pregnancy changes your breasts. The type of cosmetic breast surgery you choose depends on the specific changes to the size and shape of your breasts. If your breasts have lost volume but retain a youthful position on the chest, breast implants alone will be effective.
Breast Lift: Women with breasts that have lost some of their perkiness can benefit from a breast lift alone if they are happy with the size of their breasts. Our surgeons discuss the different incision options available and create a surgical plan based on your personal preference and physical characteristics.
Combined Breast Lift With Implants: For patients whose breasts have lost volume and are starting to sag, a breast lift combined with implants can both restore their size and a more youthful perkiness.
Breast Reduction: Some women’s breasts become overly large after having children and they want to reduce their size. This is typically combined with a breast lift, which also reshapes the breasts.
We are the only practice in the area to offer the VECTRA® 3D Imaging System to our patients. The advanced VECTRA system provides a realistic preview of potential results of breast enhancement, body contouring, and facial rejuvenation procedures.
Because a mommy makeover is inherently customizable, some patients also choose nonsurgical facial rejuvenation, such as injectable fillers, as part of their procedures. The exact combination of procedures included is something you and your surgeon discuss during the consultation.
“I saw (Dr. Spring) for a ‘Mommy Makeover.’ I have 4 children, and I hadn’t felt sexy in 16 years. My life has completely changed, and I feel like my younger, sexier self once again! I am beyond thrilled with my results…”– tracylynn67, RealSelf user
Recovery & Results
Expect the first week to be the most uncomfortable, and plan on taking 2 weeks off from work. If you have small children, plan on a support system of family or friends to help with child care during the recovery. You’ll also need to avoid lifting heavy objects (including a child) for up to 6 weeks.
As swelling and bruising begin to fade, you’ll see the results of the mommy makeover. But it can take weeks, even months, for the full benefits of the procedure to appear. That said, the benefit of combining procedures in a mommy makeover is that you only have to schedule time for a single recovery.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cost of a mommy makeover?
The price of a mommy makeover depends on your specific surgical plan with Dr. Spring or Dr. Hromadka, which emerges based on your discussion at the consultation.
Combining multiple procedures in a single operation can be cost-effective because certain fees are charged only once. We quote a specific cost that includes the surgeon’s fee, an operating room fee, and an anesthesiologist’s fee as part of the total.
Can I get a mommy makeover soon after having a baby?
Having a baby takes a significant physical toll, and you should be completely recovered before undergoing any cosmetic surgery. Additionally, if you are currently breastfeeding, it’s recommended that you wait until your breasts are no longer changing size or shape after you stop. That may take several months.
Also consider how much help you will be able to enlist. Remember that during your recovery, you won’t be able to lift your child or children, so you will need constant child care.
What are some things I can do to prepare for my mommy makeover?
We provide all of our patients detailed preoperative instructions to help them prepare for surgery. In addition to following these instructions, you should plan to have a trusted friend or family member who has agreed to assist with chores, errands, child care, and other day-to-day activities. It’s also a good idea to fill your prescriptions before your scheduled surgery date and shop for personal hygiene items ahead of time.
